Default Steering rack woes

So, I sold this guy a steering rack after he crashed the front of his car and needed a steering rack. I told him if there were any issues he could return it.
I dropped it at his work today and he turned the rack which was making a whirring noise (which seemed normal to me) he then pulled the steering shaft input off to inspect it further but then couldn't put it back together... Anyway - he took it and paid then I was on my way.
Later today he messages me, saying it's noisier than his old one and "the steering doesn't feel good". I asked if there were any EPS error codes - he said no. But he wants his money back.

Do I give it back? I'm a bit skeptical that there is actually anything wrong with it as prior to pulling the rack out, it worked fine.
And is a noisy steering rack any indication of it on it's way out? I've never heard of a S2000 rack fail besides having electronic issues? I think his actual issue is a bent suspension arm or damaged camber joint/knuckle.
