I have got to say, this is a most interesting read, it was fictional to me before how gears would give an advantage, thanks for that Ok the other day, i good friend of mine has a nissan 300sx TT, i booted it in 1nd just after he did, i only past him at 100mph, and put about 1 car length past him. (In a dream i had
)I presume now with the addition of 4.57 gears i would put about 3 car lengths past him at most, becuase of the intial pull at the start, i get an advantage way early on
?

When you run a shorter final drive you pull the closer-spaced high gears lower. At the speed where you would've upshifted from 3rd to 4th (dropping to 7054rpm from 9000rpm), you'll now be shifting from 4th to 5th (dropping to 7526rpm, closer to peak HP). I know your new 5th gear does not have the exact overall gear ratio as the old 4th but the trend is there and that's why I say statistically (when you have to do a drag for more than a single upshift).

Reality is a geared car 4.44, 4.56 or 4.77s will be quicker than a stock car from a stop to 100. Of course you can stage races where the geared car is out of its optimal range where the stock car is at its perfect point and the stock car will pull the geared car. I suppose for track racing, you would have to change gears for every track in order to get the best results.
I have no track experience. But, from personal road experience when my car was stock it took all day to reach 140+ and both with my old 4.44's and now my 4.77s I shift to 6th and get to 140 with little effort. So, on a long straight on a track I would think the stock geared car would fair quite poorly vs the geared car.
Also, from personal experience I pull on 350 z's at higher speeds fairly easily, while from everything I've heard a stock geared S will lose up top to the 350.
Other than lowering my top speed to the mid 140 range, I don't see any reason not to change the gears. In fact, Honda must have thought the same thing, because that's exactly what they did with the 04+ models.
The guy who installed my gears has an all motor S with 4.77's running on 100 octane hitting flat 13's. The only real 1/4 mile disadvantage a 4.77 geared car has is getting traction on not blowing the rear end if you do hook up.
