Intake removal will help, but Im a honda tech andall of us here use a long extension and "feel skills"
P.s. If your just removing the trans, leave the extension and socket on the bolt.

put a penlight between the 3rd and 4th intake runner.
Put your eyes between the 2nd and 3rd intake runner, you'll see it clear as day.
Use a 3/8 drive 14mm swivel, and 24" extension.
Be SUPER carefull. do not force the extension against any wires or hoses, or you will instantly break the knock sensor.

holly moly!! well i am removing both motor and transmission for repair. i have intake, alternator, compressor. i am on step 13 in service manual for transmission removal. this starter has taken me over an hr to even attempt. the upper support bolt is a tricky lil bugger!! so a 24" extension with swivel will do the trick? i'll give that a try

Removing the alt will help. You have to anyway, to get to the two upper AC compressor bolts.
For trans removal...do NOT remove the black bracket on the back of the engine that holds the wiring. just unclip the main harness in 2 spots under the brake master cylinder to give it slack. They are navy blue.
