From everything that I have read on these forums, it is not an issue that will cause harm to your trans or starter. People have been operating just fine with the noise for years. It also seems that the only way to fix it is to replace the starter OR to remove the starter, disassemble it, and attempt to lube it up internally. I tried to lube an external surface while my transmission was off for a clutch change, but it did nothing.

Yep it's that time of the year where it gets cooler in the mornings. I bet a few more of these threads pop up in the next couple weeks. This happeneds to mine randomly in the winter too majority of the time is the cold mornings. As others said its the starter not disengaging right away after the car starting. The engine spins it for tha second making the sound.
