No, it's hard to start (in extreme cold) because the battery's efficiency is much reduced, you are cranking against the viscosity of very cold oil. A slow cranking engine is usually harder to fire up than a fast cranking engine.

Well, the high compression ratio does have an effect since the battery/starter has to work harder to push against the more tightly packed air. How much of a difference at cranking speeds that would be I don't know. Maybe leak-down would virtually eliminate it given the slow speed of the crank?
