Default Starter not starting + EPS light

My buddy went to start the car and didn't fully keep the starter button pressed in long enough to start it, and when he re-tried starting it, the starter clicks once but doesn't start the car. Additionally, the EPS light is now on and there is no power steering. The battery is fine, and the starter actually works fine once the car is running (i.e. pressing the button when the car is on results in the starter grind).

Came across a somewhat related thread linked below, any suggestions on this one?

Did the starter still do that first initial click? It's clicking once, but won't turn over. It grinds the starter once the motor is running (after I've push-started it.)

The starter could still be your issue. Just because it is extending the bendix, doesn't mean the starter motor itself is working to turn the motor over. I'd check all the connections on the starter, they are pretty susceptible to bad grounds. If wiring isn't the issue, pull the starter and have it bench tested. Did you actually have your battery bench tested? It could also be this because after you get the car push started, it's running solely off of the alternator. Good luck!

Fuses all seem to be in good shape. I did notice however on the positive terminal, the wire bracket is snapped and the 8gauge line isn't fully connected. Will try replacing that and report back.

As I said...this car is very susceptible to bad grounds/connections. If even one isn't making a good connection, the car will either not function, or can run very rough.
