Lots of threads like this lately. Look back to last week's posts and I think you should find two threads with other members experiencing this issue. I have the noise as well, and just like you state it only happens after the car has been sitting for a while. I can't duplicate it on warm days but on colder days (40F and below) the car will usually do it on the first start in the morning and that's it.

Before you go any further, please do a search on "Timing Chain Tensioner" and make sure the problem you have is actually your starter.

I'm having the exact same thing. I haven't done a search yet. I guess I shall have to do so.

Look at some of the TCT threads on here and it will become obvious, slalom44 has a great point.

Many people in the past have reported starter grind, only to find out that it was their timing chain tensioner. It could very well be a sticking bendix on your starter, but you don't want to replace your starter, only to find out that wasn't the problem.

Here is a video clip of a noisy TCT:

If your TCT is making this noise, you need to replace it.
