start up noise
so this only happens when i first crank my car in the morning when its cold out or when the car has sat for a coule of hours. so only on cold starts. the noise sounds like a over crank or as if you attempted to turn on a car that is already on...i dont know what it is. it does it only in the winter. i did get my car serviced not long ago and was told that my battery was below regular voltage. it starts the car fine and never have had to jump start it or anything... any suggestions would help thank in advance...

the temp issue sounds like it could be battery related but I don't know what would cause the exact sound, I would say a bad starter could do that or if the starter isnt engaging properly due to a bad battery. You're going to need a good battery either way or it will leave you stranded soon, so try getting a new battery first and see if that helps things. If it doesn't help, you aren't really out anything as you will need a new battery either way.

I've got this too. I think it may have to do with the starter not getting the gear out far enough onto the flywheel and some noise resulting until the car is started and gear back out of the way of flywheel. could be wrong though. I'm looking into replacing my starter. I've got 158K on mine though. might not be the same thing.

i was thinking the same thing but i just cant imagine the starter going bad with just 60k. im not gonna rule it out tho since it is possible. it really only does it when its cold outside.
in most instances it will only do it on the 1st crank. i can turn it off right after and re-start it and wont do the noise. today after work, so about 8hrs it did it, i turn the motor off and re-start it and it did it again like 3 times. i drove for about 1 mile and stopped to pick up dinner and it cranked normally.
idk its weird...guess i will start with the battery..

Same problem here a couple of months ago. I realized the problem occurring when the temps started dropping. I had Honda replace the starter at 51K miles and the problem is gone now.

i dunno man, honda thought it was my starter too, but i told them it was a TCT and they replaced it and i was good to go.
mine started to make noise about 50k miles too and was worse when it was colder.
