My friend recently bought a new RSX and is learning to drive a stick(
), anyways i told him to be careful about stalling...since it can damage the car if its done excessively. what are the exact parts that can get damaged everytime you stall? also, he wants to know if stalling once in a while is ok...for instance if a person is just not paying attention at a traffic light.
thanks in advance.

In the circumstances which you describe (low rpm, moving off from a stop), there should be no ill effects from stalling in this fashion. Some people might be concerned about clutch wear but the clutch gets much more wear during a normal take-off and certainly more wear from a non rev matched shift. And since at low rpm, the engine isn't developing a whole lot of torque or HP, stopping it like that should do no harm either. The only thing that I can see as even a slight issue is that the ECU may have a bit of a brain fart because it would have a hard time trying to maintain idle speeds as it would normally try do when the engine speed dips below its normal idle. If stalling out is not a regular long term occurance, the ECU won't have time to learn this odd behavior.
