Default SRS Light Issue

I have a 04 and everything as far as the SRS system is completely factory. From time to time I have the SRS pop on and I could not tell you why? I reset it and its can go months and all the sudden it comes back on. Now I will say though, one thing I have noticed is that it comes on when its really hot outside. Today the heat index was in the 100s and within 2 minutes of the car being on, the light came on. No biggie as I reset it but I am wondering if it will come on tomorrow too since its supposed to be like this again tomorrow.

Everything is plugged and I double checked everything before making this post. I have also searched and found nothing related that could solve my issue. My only thought is that the SRS module is somehow being triggered when the temp goes up and there is some random occurrence with it.

Check the code. I'm pretty sure you can do blink codes.

So I checked the code and got one long flash with three short flashes. I read that as 1-3 and the description for that code is, "Short in another wire or decreased resistance in driver's airbag inflator."

Did I read the code correctly and what is the fix for this?

Issue with the airbag or clockspring. Could be intermittent also. Did you clear it and see if the light returns?

Yeah I did clear it and it came back on, same code. I had to take the steering wheel and airbag out last year when I replaced the steering column. I'm assuming that had something to do with it. If in the event of an accident and the SRS light is not lit, will the airbags still funtion properly?

Yes that had everything to do with it. My guess is a broken clockspring (cable reel).

If the SRS light is on, the system is inoperative and the bags will not deploy.

How easy is it just to replace the clockspring?
