The primary cause of a spun bearing is lubrication failure.

It normally would have nothing to do with mixture, detonation, or a test pipe.

I understand that there are many reasons why spun rod bearings are caused. I just figured I would see the correlation between owners who had spun them with testpipes and without. Just thought that maybe if most of the people that have spun them had testpipes on the car, that it might help people to second guess the decision to buy one without engine management.

Check your oil, usually a spun bearing is cause by very low oil or none at all going to your rods.

Look...if you don't have anything constructive to say in this thread, then don't post. Whether you understand it or not, a spun rod bearing CAN be caused from running lean and testpipes have been known to cause the S to run lean.

i was told it was oil starvation, but there was a test pipe involved in the incident..

The 1st thing to be damaged from running lean would be the pistons, bores, and rings. Not a rod bearing.

A test pipe isn't going to be a factor.

Low oil volume and pressure at the rod bearing will damage it.
