Yes, there is a permanent magnet in the tranny that collects ferrous particles. No, it can't be cleaned without disassembly, unless you invent a tool that reaches in and wipes it without risk of dropping part of the tool or part of the ferrous material into the transmission case.

Experts say an engine oil drain bolt magnet hardly does any good... it's not bad for inspection, but the oil filter catches contaminants anyway.
