Default Spoon Magnetic Drain Plugs

This may sound like a stupid question , but here goes. I purchased a set of Spoon Magnetic Drain Plugs and I am not sure which one goes where. They both appear to to have the same size thread diameter, however one has a longer magnet.
Any ideas?

Larger magnet goes in the tranny............smaller one goes in the engine's oil pan.

Every time this topic comes up, I ask the same question with no responses. What in the transmission (that actually wears) is ferrous? Brass isn't attracted to magnets.

Where does the differential plug come into play in all of this?

The diff already has one! Though you go through Diff's so fast you wouldn't know this..............the metal that comes out of your diff is in CHUNKS not fine shavings.

Our gears are made of metal the only thing that is brass is the synchros(from what I have heard) The teeth that drive the car in the tranny aren't made of brass(not strong enough)

There is bearing, gear, and shaft wear that produces enough loose particles that the magnetic plug does pickup more than I expected, especially since there is reportedly a permanent magnet in the transmission.

I would really like to know where the particles come from on the engine oil plug.. that magnet picks up quite a bit as well. With all the aluminum components I expected less there than I see on every oil change.

Can the permanent magnet be cleaned without opening up the tranny?

At about 5K miles, when I was doing my first tranny oil change, I ran all my old oil through a coffee filter. I was surprised that there was NOTHING that I could see in the filter. I had probably ground into 2nd gear 200 times at that point.
