Ive heard that the bottom of the tranny case is already magnetic so that the drain plug doesnt do much.

John Z said that his magnetic plug never looked like that, and mine hasn't either - just some very fine particles. I will take a picture next time. Especially since this isn't the first oil change, I would be interested in where the stuff is coming from.

I wouldn't worry about how many shavings were on it. It was only his second oil change. My first couple of oil changes looked like that now maybe a few shavings on it, but not much at all

I have the same plug, but put it in at about 12,000 miles (~35,000 mi now). I've had zero metal shavings on it.
Some of what you found on your mag plug may be slag/residual from the initial break-in and/or the original build. You should see this go to near zero as you put miles on your car. If not, you might want to be concerned.

As Billman mentioned - it's a great product to use - a little insurance.

Useful or not, I bought one for my car a little while back.

The way I see it, if it doesn't work, it'll be no worse than the OEM drain plug; so nothing to lose. But if it DOES work, then I could potentially saving myself a lot of money down the road.

You can say your engine has Spoon parts.

I use a generic mag plug BTW.
