^^^well if it turns out to be the alternator and or rectifier, no it isnt bad for your car. Just for you when your battery goes dead at the worst possible moment.

Like if you smart mouth an MMA fighter cause ur car is faster. Then it doesnt start and you get your but whooped. Just a little out of the box thinking to get you to look at the problem a little different

My lights dim for a second when I turn on my lights or electric windows, could this be a bad earth somewhere also?

check the voltage when the car running normal or under electrical load(a/c high beam, etc)

is it bad for my car if i don't replace it? it's pretty expensive just to fix flickering lights. i only notice this when i set the speedometer on the brightest setting. are there any consequences later on if i do not change this? also, i think i still have 7yrs/100k miles powertrain warranty that came with the car when i bought it used (not sure if its transferrable), will that cover it?
talk to your dealer first, i have honda care and it's not even worth the money

replacing the alternator in our car is very easy, take out the intake box, loosen the serpertine belt, 2 bolts holding the alternator in place. after that just a pig tail and ground.

with a dying alternator your battery will not be charged to full, when the alternator is really died, you'll deep discharge the battery with it also, at that point you need to get it towed to a garage.

change it before that happens, deep discharge kills battery, you don't want another 80 bucks on top of the alternator swap fee.

check the voltage if you are not sure, but most people experience flickering tach right before the alternator takes a sh-t
