i always thought it was shifting without letting off the clutch. on some automatics, they call it power shifting. and off course they shift without a clutch but they said it was really slamming your foot down until you cross the line.

Hi Fast Jack and ans2k : the below text has been taken off the following site: http://www.dcawd.com/index.php?option=com_...id=48&Itemid=65

"Power Shifting: Refers to shifting gears without lifting the foot off the gas pedal. Shifting must be done quickly or the engine will rev too high. Don't let the engine rev more than 500 rpm between shifts. Not for the uncoordinated!"

AND below text has been taken off the following site: http://www.ehow.com/how_2084716_speed-shif...ssion-drag.html

"Keep your foot on the gas during each speed-shift. This will cause your engine to rev high while the clutch is depressed, so you will need to make your shift quickly enough so that you do not approach the red-line, which can either burn out your engine or cause the rev limiter to kick in and shut off your engine. Either way, you will lose the drag race! "

I'm still looking to see what shifting without using the clutch is called ! LOl !

OK ! Just found it ! it's called Clutchless shifting. Check it out here :

The bottom line is that "speed shifting" will only help your 1/4 mile times by 1/10th of a second at best. I doubt that it will help to "edge" out any competition. Not worth the abuse but if, for example, I was running consistent 14.0s.. I would do all that I could break into the 13s for atleast 1 run.
