Yes, I'm asking which way they go into the valve cover. They have been removed and replaced at one time to powder coat the valve cover. I'm just unsure of the orientation and to add to my curiosity, two of my spark plug tubes had oil in them.

Why were yours replaced, torn, dry rot?

After a quick search, a post by xviper:

it is not uncommon to find oil getting down into the spark plug well. And since the spark plug boot on the end of the coilpack seals the plug top pretty well, this little bit of oil is not a big deal. Most of the S2000s that I take plugs out of for inspection show signs of oil at the bottom of the well.

and billman250 states:

Somehow they were cut, or damaged during valve cover removal. It is rare for them to leak.

i replaced them on a fellow member's car. she had random misfires. i pulled the plugs only to be confronted with oil soaked everything in tube cyl. #2. i flipped the valve cover over and saw the tube seal was torn/cracked.

changed out the tube seals (all 4) plugs and #2 coil. her car has been running top notch since.
