Default Spark Plug Recall?

So I'm bringing my car into my mechanic to change some spark plugs. Reason? I hear changing them before a dyno session would help improve figures. Anyhow, my mechanic calls Honda to order the plugs and the guy says there's a recall on the plugs and to bring the car in. I rush back to the office and do a search. Indeed there was a recall but for cars pre-2002! Am I reading the threads correctly? Was there a recall for 2002? Have you guys changed your plugs yet

Depends on when your '02 was built. My '02 had this tsb done.

Search the Toronto forum and you will find a thread I posted with pics when I had mine done...

This definitely was a recall. I received a letter in the mail about my '02. The replacement plugs have a different gasket ring thingy, and they are supposed to be torqued to a higher spec (I think 18 ft-lbs).

Just had this recall performed on my 2000 S2000; got a copy of the TSB (#02-042) here's the spill:

Dated July 10, 2002

"Background
Faulty spark plug gaskets can cause the spark plugs to loosen. A loose spark plug can cause the engine to misfire and the MIL to come on"

gernby's correct--they are torqued to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft)

Have your dealer cross reference your VIN. If it is entitled and has not been done, they'll do it.

Wantone,

Call a dealer, and ask them to do a Vehicle Status Inquiry on Interactive Network. All you need to provide is your VIN. They'll be able to tell you if there are any open campaigns on your S. Or, PM me your VIN, and I'll run it for you on Monday, and let you know.
