Sounds
s2000 year 2000, 79000 miles.
Here is the symptom of my car:
The higher that RPM the louder the noise. Noise isn't there when I am accelerating, only on deceleration of the gas pedal. The noise goes away when the clutch pedal is pressed. The noise also goes away when the gear is in neutral. I left the car in idle/nuetral and pressed on the gas to 5 rpm, no noise at all, only the sound of my engine. Noise sounds like howling/whinning (hard to describe)
Alrite so the guy (lets call him JOE) that would sell the transmision for 550+install for 200 test drove my car. Said the transmission seems fine, and that the sound may be coming from the input shaft bearing. He said even if I changed the transmission with his 2003 one, it would still make the sound because he would take the bearing from my current transmission, so he would not do it. I did a bit of research on output/input shaft bearing noises and stuff, but not too sure what it is.
So heres the break down of people's comments that I have had to check out the car:
#1) An auto shop that said it was an internal transmission problem. Said 3k for a rebuild one and 6k for a new one (he doesn't repair, he buys and put one in). This guy to me was a fraud so I had guy number two checked it out.
#2) A transmission shop that I had taken the car to earlier said it was an internal transmission problem and needs a rebuild which ranges from 1.7k-2.9k depending on what they find once they disassemble it.
#3)JOE said it was a bearing problem from the input shaft bearing, transmission is fine, no slip, pop out, or anything. He recomments bringing it to a clutch shop to get a new clutch in and input shaft bearing changed or checked out. I told him about the transmission shop that had checked it out and their opinion on it. Joe said "you bring it to a transmission shop, they wil claim its a transmission problem, they want your money".
