Something you don't see every day

If the EPS unit sees unequal signals it interprets that as a fault and shuts down the power steering and lights the EPS light on the dash. This is easily reset - turn off the ignition, make the signals equal again, and restart.
I have a scope trace of the signals that I will post tomorrow if I have time. In the mean time you can check out the web page I posted that has some more details of exactly what I did.

Hmm. The PWM sounds weird. I wonder if it's for error detection against dead shorts, or the sensor works on some sort of LC/LR sensor, and needs the pulses to excite it. A magnet would attenuate two coils inversely proportionate if that where the case.

That modifry is one sharp dude, I love my radio controls and variable speed volume with his DCI, I can do without the steering wheel modification though, lol. Good fun watching

I really like the idea of decreasing the power assist. I've removed power steering from another car and was surprised at how little it was noticed once I was above parking lot speeds. I would be interested in something that would adjust the amount of force proportional to speed. Similar to how the variable speed volume DCI works but in reverse. Maybe have two knobs. One to set the speed at which the power assist begins decreasing and another the set the rate the power assist is decreased.

I could install one of those on the passenger side. Along with the cruise control, I can sleep in the drivers seat on the way to the dragon and let my +1 take the wheel
I've been meaning to disassemble the torque sensor. I believe there is a mechanical part that gets stuck, causing light steering in one direction.

I've noticed this recently in an S I was driving. I have a rack I've been meaning to take apart. If I beat you to it I'll let you know what I find.
