I looked at and mini-serviced the starter when I did the clutch last year. But thanks for looking out...good suggestion.

I might need to do this as well, or at least pull the head as im slightly low on compression.
Im curious how hard it is to do a HG or pull the head. I would say i have good mechnical knowledge but just never did this before. The first time i did a timing belt i was worried as well and it came out fine, Now i wouldnt hesitate if i had the tools.
Removing bolts doesnt worry me, just the timing portion of it.

Timing this car up is ridiculously easy since the timing chain doesn't drive the cams.
If you've not done this before, just follow the FSM carefully. You'll do fine. Nothing about it is difficult.
Taking off the intake manifold sucks. It's been suggested in a lot of DIY's to leave the IM and header in place/moved out of the way. But I'm not interested in potentially damaging my head because of a shortcut. Since this is my car/time/garage, I'll just take the time to be careful.
I'm for sure removing the IM and header completely out because it makes everything easier to maneuver.

remember that you might not damage the head, you can damage other items when removing the IM (hoses and sensors). If it can be just held back with a bungee or something, i might think thats a better choice.

Good to know on the clamps.
$1K later....
All parts (and more) are ordered from Honda. Most of the essential things are 1.5wks away. A bummer because I wanted to finish all this over memorial day weekend.
I can't whine too much, though. If I didn't have friends, some of the essential stuff would be months out.
Billman TCT also en route.

Trust. These are getting expedited.
Water pumps and head bolts seem to be hard to come by.
I guess I can have it all prepped to go back together by the time the parts show up.

I think I recall Billman stating a failed water pump was about as scarce as hen's teeth.

My head gasket gave way and the valve stems had badly worn (probably due to the overheating). That meant new valves and valve guides. The latter are a bit specialist and have to be ‘sweated’ out in a suitable oven

This ol girl's got 170K miles. Not a bad peice of insurance for $160, right?
Idk I'm probably overthinking it. But this is literally just the tip of the "while I'm in there" berg on this car.
When it's finally done, its gonna be brilliant.
I'm gonna go pick up my AP1 from storage this week. So...at least I'll get to enjoy a S2000 for the time being. Ripping into the weekend.
AP1 > AP2 in terms of reliability, as I've proven scientifically here.
