Why would he want to pass? Have you checked the prices of an 03 with that many miles? He could put in a motor be a few grand ahead, granted the rest of the car is in good condition...
Oops, did not read comments about the rest of the car. Yeah doesn't sound like it's in good shape at all. I wouldn't.

Thanks for the advice guys. I agree, if the rest of the car was in good shape, I wouldn't mind doing a motor swap/rebuild, however, after you get the engine sorted out, the paint is f*cked, interior pieces are broken, seats are in poor condition, corrosion everywhere from the time the car spent in Virginia...the list goes on and on.
One thing I've learned is that if the previously owner(s) neglected the car for a long period of time, it's time to let the car die in someone else's hands. If someone wanted to turn this car into a track car, it would be good for that, but not for a street car.

I love how the ad just makes it sound like you need to chase down a code and nothing else.
I was going to say to leave your contact info, and if nobody else bites (which wouldn't surprise me), tell him to call you to dump it off. But, if the CarMax offer is true, then never mind.
