Checked the vaccum lines everything seems fine. What just came to mind that I didn't look at was the sensor that goes into the intake (looks to small to be a MAF, I think its an Air temp sensor but not sure), I doubt a leak in the sensor would create to much of an issue. I did not check the spark plugs but that isn't a bad idea I changed them about 10k back and they looked fine, the car doesn't idle funny so it didn't even cross my mind. I'll check them tonight or this weekend.

that's true, fouled plugs can be a sign of running rich. Hadn't thought of that, if you're running rich I would say check the rear 02 sensor although I'm pretty sure that would have thrown you a CEL.

I wouldn't think that just the lack of that assistance would cause it but I figured vac lines are easy enough to check that I would throw it out there.
No air pump on 06+ S2000s.

He said that the smell is only at startup, if his plugs were fouled or he had a lazy/bad o2 sensor he'd be smelling it all the time.

Maybe try a MAP whack? Clean the IAC while you're at it?

If you were to hook this up to an obd2 diagnostic device, would the be any parameters to check to try and determine the problem. I have a obd2 adapter for my iphone and we can meet up sometime and check everything out, but I don't know where to look or what I SHOULD be seeing.

What is a MAP "whack"?

I'd be down to meet up and look it couldn't hurt. I'm sure we could find what the normal numbers are supposed to be.
