Pretty much use the special tool # and install the seal. It takes a bit more finesse to do it right.

It makes you wonder why this is happening. Was the seal just defective or is there a bering issue also?

It's not a common issue, 3-4 cars posted out of thousands sold. I'd have to see the leaking seal to tell why is was leaking.

Improperly installed, the seal lip was rolled.

Were these untouched transmissions? If so then they were installed incorrectly from the factory.

probably since they moved production back to suzuka, they don't have the elite selection of honda engineers that they used to have at tochigi. my speculation.

Yes, mine was an untouched transmission from the factory and I started noticing my leak at around 20k miles or so.

Mine started with 20K+ miles also... What is bothering me is that usually if a seal is installed incorrectly it leaks right away. Strange that it would take over 20k miles to start. The good news is the leak goes away after a new seal is installed correctly, so the leak is not due to anything else. If you hit 50k without any reoccuring leaks then you should be good.
