Sludge found around TCT, possible oil leak?
Hey guys, I'm coming to ya'll with a worry of mine . Today, while topping off my engine oil (engine consumes a quart of oil every thousand miles), I found what seemed to be oil on the outside of my engine, surrounding and covering the TCT. Am I correct in my assumption that the TCT is the sole culprit of this leak and a replacement will fix the problem? This can't be normal can it? Maybe I'll clean it and see if it returns? What does everyone think?
S2k is a 2001 with 90k miles, and I am the third owner. I VTEC only a few times a week if that says anything, it isn't driven that hard.. Thanks for the help everyone, looking forward to your responses, appreciate it!
I ran my finger through the oil in this picture, it was wet, maybe new/old oil mix?

you could have a leaky valvecover gasket, I just got an 02 with 55,000 miles, and it had a leaky gasket on the valvecover. I pulled the valvecover and replaced the cover gasket and spark plug gaskets and it stopped the leak. The oil can leak seep out around the valvecover gasket and then it drips down behind the sensor until it shows up on the outside of the head and makes it look like the sensor is leaking, though it might not excactly be coming from the sensor itselt. I think that I can see some valvecover oil leakage in those picutres around the base of the cover, but it is hard to be sure just from the pics. Get a bright light and search around the base of the valvecover for leakage. Neither leak will consume that much oil but it is good to fix the leak.
If it turns out being the sensor you can remove it , clean the gasket mating surface and reinstall it with bolt torqued to 8.7 ft lbs.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Think I'll go ahead and clean it all up and then check on it every day or so to see if I can find the exact area of the leak, although I'll most likely just purchase a new TCT and replace it. I'll also check the valve cover gasket and everything else everyone suggested. Thanks everyone.
