Default slipping clutch - warrantly issues.....

I have a 02' S2000 and my clutch feels weak...it has started to slip once in a while...(never mind the occasional drag races). This should be covered by the warranty regardless, right?......The car only has 5,500 miles on it. Would it matter if I have an aftermarket exhaust or can the dealer use this as an actual excuse? Local Honda dealer in Topeka is a pain in the butt.

Any comments or suggestions would be highly appreciated.

all i can say is that it won't be covered...it should only cost you 500 for the parts and labor....that's what i paid and it was a great deal compared to the 1300 the dealer wanted for the work.

you get differing opinions on this but generally a clutch is a wearable item so not covered under warranty. you might get lucky depending on the dealer.

So mine went into the shop on Friday because it was having trans problems. The tech got on the phone with Honda and got the clutch replacement ok'd as well as replacing all the transmission parts that were in the bulletins - all warranty work. So I'm guessing that if you take it to the dealership and actually talk to the tech, you might have a shot at getting it done. Good luck!

My experience is that Honda will replace it once.. they declined my second one. I put in a Toda flywheel and Star clutch and slips are a thing of the past. If you have to fund it don't waste your money on another wimpy Honda clutch.

Z06-Killer - If you are interested in a non-Honda clutch setup like ACT or Star, let me know.

ACT pressure plates are reworked Honda units
Star pressure plates are reworked Honda units as well. They each have their own ways, which are quite different in getting a little stiffer pedal feel and better pressure on the clutch disk themselves.

ACT/Honda clutch - just a direct replacement.
Star clutch disks - four stages of different materials, which can run from 129 to 199 for the disk itself.

WOW, Honda drove my car and said they could not find anything wrong with the clutch, and in the event of something happening to it, that IT WOULD be covered.....also, they installed my J's N1 exhaust........I feel a whole lot better now....except my hearing has started to go away :-)
