I sure wished this was puclic knowledge as I have went from near redline 3rd to 6th and instantly noticed an issue with my tranny from then on. 5th 6th lockout issues and more force required to enter gears.

Do Not do this please is basically what this forum says. this should be put out to a knowledge base somewhere or tought to others. I have had many vehicles in my day but this is the longest I have owned one mainly because I love it so much and now I am suffering from the damage I have potentially caused.

Anyone know the cost of fixing this. I.E. New tranny, new syncroes, new gears. can an owner just swap out to straight cut gears and be done with it?

Why would anyone run their motor up to redline just to skip all the gears in between? Doesnt make any sense.

The only time i skip gears is when i am poking around at the posted speed limit. I go through the gears shifting at 4-5k then when i reach the speed limit i might jump to 5th or 6th. I would never redline the car and go straight to 6th from 2nd.

It never occured to me that skip shifting may be harmful until I joined this forum. I do it on occasion if I have a reason and I always do it in my 91' Celica GT without a thought. In the S2000 I always try to move the shift lever into the next appropriat gear before a skip. Example would be a move from 4th into 5th and while the clutch is still depressed ,into 6th. I can't recall a situation that I would ever do this in the lower gears but maybe I have in strange circumstances. I could easily be wrong but this seems to me like a reasonable and safe compromise.

It may be redundant, but are you saying I should row through all the gears before accelerating after coming to a stop?

If you are in 5th or 6th gear going around 60 mph (arbitrary) and come upon a red light, you downshift through all the gears? One thing i've seen and done is put the car in neutral and just coast till i'm almost at a stop, i don't put it in gear or else i won't roll as far.

Hopefully that was clear enough. I'm basically asking if you go from 6th gear to a stop, do you row through all the gears before putting it in first to start back up.

Double clutch and you won't have any issues.

I downshift when coming to a stop but I guess you could come to a stop in sixth gear with an early and a more lengthy use of the clutch. I would never coast to a stop but evidently many people do..

No, either go striaght to neutral or step down through the gears and use the engine to brake. Once you are stopped you are good, do what you want.

I learned that skip shifting from 4th to 6th was bad and it makes sense as to why it does. I changed my habit and have yet to do it since. I now shift to 5th and then directly into 6th. You have to the let the friction material on the synchro speed up or slow down the shaft you are shifting to. If Honda engineered the transmission to take the abuse of skip shifting into 6th we would not have as nice a tranny in the first place.

Like someone said earlier, if there is not advantage to doing something that may cause harm (it will), then why do it?
