Obviously we need more information but I'm stuck on the rich condition. Eleven to twelve miles per gallon! Can misrouting vacuum lines or inverted check valve cause that? What about the "tone" he's hearing?

My CAI went on (and off) without a hitch, and I can't imagine what might be going on here.
It's hard to tell from his post, but he may have had that bad gas mileage before the CAI install. As for the tone, we don't know if the sound of the airpump has changed since the CAI or that he's only really listened to it now that he's got problems. It may have had that same sound before but he never listened to it that closely.
And no, even a bad CAI install won't change the mileage like that. I think it was a pre-existing condition.

I think a blown fuse would stop the pump from running at all.

At first I thought this was the famous person that stripped his engine oil drain plug.
So "doing something really unorthodox" would be possible.
But its not the same person.
Excuses!
No that would be me! LOL

You mean the person who desparately WANTED TO BUY AN OIL PAN (I'm just using the same CAP letters he was using on his thread) before he posted about his OIL PAN PROBLEM is not the same person who desparately WANTED TO BUY AN AIR PUMP before he posted about his sighs* problem?

FYI.... an AEM CAI (and probably others) have a high-pitched hum any time the engine is running. This is normal. Not sure if you're hearing this or the actual air pump.

I am noting that at NO time has he ever, in this thread or the other one, posted up the CODE. He's just making wild guesses and assumptions about needing an air pump. Go ahead and buy an air pump and put it in. Unless you KNOW what the code is, what's the point? Why don't you go out and buy new tires? How about a new alternator? Or a new power steering rack? How come you don't think you need one of those?
WHAT'S THE CODE???????
