Yes, there is, but the discrepancy isn't 1/2 qt. - 200cc at most.

yeah pretty much like xviper said, there is always a diffeerence and it is probably about 200 ml, give or take.

One of the most incorrect readings you will get is on the first pull of the dipstick, always wipe and reinsert a second time to get an accurate reading. I swear I've seen full readings on the first pull and nearly one quart low on the second reading at times in the past.

The s2000 dipstick is one of the few in the world to false read like this. It has been the reason for most of my engine jobs. If one side shows full, and one side shows nothing, you have NOTHING.

The dipstick picks up a coating of oil that sits between the windage tray and the block. And this gives the false full coating on one side.

To lessen the chance of a false reading. Check it ice cold in the morning. Both sides must match.

ok thanks alot, if that is the case, then i lost half my oil in like three weeks haha, yet i dont have an oil leak. am i burning oil? my car has 69k miles on it. if so what do u do to fix the problem?

Are you saying you lost half the oil from the full mark to the low mark ?, if so that isn't any more than 1/2 a quart , probably not that bad depending on the number of miles that represents. ff you lost half your oil that would be 2.5 quarts+ , now that could be a problem.

Take care not to "rub" the dipstick on the sides when you pull it out too.

Unlikely. These motors do burn oil, but I'd guess your first reading was a "false full", and your second was true.

To rule out a serious oil-burning situation, add oil now and continue to check carefully (per the advice on this thread) every week or two until you get an accurate sense of your engine's oil consumption.

That must have been because they ended up without oil.... way before the S2000 days.
