Would it bother you, if you missed a few weekend jaunts in the puppy? I can see a month or so go by, when the S2K doesn't get used, for whatever reason. Personally, I wouldn't worry. But, just wondered if others did. And what provisions they put into place.

Thanks!

Unless you are in a snow-ridden part of the country I don't understand why people don't just drive the car for ~15 minutes once every 2-4 weeks? That's what I intend to do this winter when my S is in storage.

Take the long way to work until you see at least 3 bars of heat.

Amsoil 0w30 is a great choice.My 03 likes it ( 99,307 miles).

Car Analogy.. wow.. well, here where I live, they have bike paths and buses.. that are used.. although, yes, it isn't the same.. in Europe, a bicycle or pedestrian are treated with much / were at least when I was there/ respects and right of way... not exactly the same in the States.. we some places, have far greater distances...

Windhund116... that whole year was a learning about german cars an how expensive they are, beating.. I owned a bmv and an audi, both were chit, then I got this cheapass vw golf 1.6,, damn thing worked fine.. inbetween all that, when it wasn't pouring rain or snowing, I rode my bicycle.. did I store or care or do anything, no, I worked an had a garage that did all services.. I drove the chit outta all of them..

jkelly, I agree, i'm stayin in florida.. when my S, is never in storage...

my work is 1.7 miles away and takes about 6 minutes to get there. I always get to 3 bars temp even in winter. Winter in California is still like over 50 degrees though...

I'm right at the edge. My one-way commute is 5.0 miles, with the first 2.7 miles or so city streets to the Freeway, off at the next exit and 1.3 miles back on surface streets. Mostly in rush hour, so stopping at lights is frequent, no chance, really for vtec. It's frustrating sometimes, but the S is so fun to drive. by taking that one-exit on the freeway, I avoid a long stop at a 6-way intersection. I will usually DD an old Odyssey 4 days a week, then have my S for Friday and the weekend.

I said it before, that is not long enough to fully warm up an engine, even in summer weather. Even once coolant reaches operating temp, such that temp gauge reads fully warm, the whole engine is not yet fully warmed up.

That short a drive, you have built up much more moisture then you've burned off.

3 bars just means your water temperature is at 160f, it says nothing about your oil temperature which is much more critical for your engine bearings. Your thermostat doesn't even open at that temperature. If your heater isn't blasting hot air you're not up to operating temperature.

I do like the oil idea, would it be okay to run all winter long, even on long drives once the engine is warm?
Oh dear, when I was your age it was uphill both ways, six miles, barefoot, through the snow - and that was in the summer.

Those who opine that you should start and then drive off - gently - are 100% correct though if I was within a couple of miles of my work I would happily walk every day - or as others suggested - take the long way round.
