Default should it sound like this?

I'm about to pay honda £100 to redo the valves because i can't find an answer anywhere on the interweb if my car sounds normal or not after me having a go at DIY valves, shes an 02 ap1 all 16 valves where very tight beforehand she sounded a bit like a diesel before but now more pronounced, maybe paranoid ears or i fecked it up. please chime in. https://youtu.be/gUvBK05f4v0

Sounds like timing chain. You replace the tensioner?

Noisy valves arent tight. Tight valves burn, loose valves tick. If it sounds like a diesel, the valves are LOOSE. Check that you used the right size feeler gauge, and adjusted them to the right "feel." Its something that you will never know how to feel on your first few attempts. Just make sure the smallest feeler gauge ALWAYS fits in. Loose valves are only noisy, over tight ones can kill an engine. If you arent confident, let Honda do it. $100 is super cheap. The dealer I work at still wants to charge me $200, so I did it myself. Took me 4 tries to do it right, dont feel bad.

And after watching that video, you definately need to tighten those up a bit. Sound pretty loose but at least you adjusted them the safer way!

You work at a dealer and they want to charge you 200? That sucks. Don't you have a colleague who wants to do it for you after hours?

To me the second video has a healthier, more normal sounding F20C. There's so many factors that can cause noise, but timing chain could indeed be one of them, new spark plugs, valve adjustment can affect noise for better or worse, but what's important with that is that they are in a safe range within spec. Though the quality of the noise feed from the cell phone is also better on the second video. How many miles are on your car vs. your friend's?
