Should FW be resurfaced when installing new clutch

What does "step cut" mean? Does it mean that you scrape it in very small steps (like .001") until it is flat?

Wait, looking at the picture again, do you mean that the mounts for the PP need to be scraped too?

Exactly....A flywheel machine is a precision grinding stone, unlike a brake lathe which cuts with blades. Using a collet type dowel pin remover, you'd pull the dowels, and plane the surface that the pressure plate mounts to in addition to the friction surface. I can do you up one if you like...Just pay cutting and shipping, you can have the FW for free.

Crap. I understand how that would reduce mass slightly without reducing clamping force, but it doesn't sound like something I will be able to find this weekend, and I can't wait for one to be shipped.

Okay, so I guess I will just use sand paper. How many thousands of passes will I need to make to "call it good"?

At the rate I've been going on this project, I expect it will take 4-6 hours (including smoking, beer drinking, bitching, socializing, and trips to the hardware store).

Around here, I'd call that a conservative estimate!

I didn't like the pedal on the factory setup so when I replaced my clutch I cut it an extra .002 over the factory spec, just a guess at the time but seemed to work well. Pedal is an inch off the floor and no slip with a 6000 rpm drop. I also used a lightened Fidenza flywheel and an ACT street clutch, its awesome. Rev's fast don't miss a shift. but has a few drawbacks if you care! not good in traffic on hills, spins the tires until you get used to it,(could just be the driver). does not make more hp just puts more to the wheels at high rpm's, but sure goes upstairs faster.

The pedal height is easily adjustable without doing anything to the clutch at all.
