Should the brake pedal have some slack before it feels firm when braking?

Thumbs up Should the brake pedal have some slack before it feels firm when braking?

Should there be some slack or play when pushing the brake pad before it firms or brakes? Can't remember how it used to be but felt like this for years now. I just did the fluid/pads/rotors/calipers. brakes work great but there is some slack where I can push the pedal in an inch or maybe more before it starts to brake. Is this from air being in the brake line or is this just normal to have a little play/slack before being stiff and engaging the brakes? Doesn't give you the real "bite" feel how it is now at all.

I have a little "play" in my pedal feel as well.
Just to be sure though, assuming that your pads aren't sintered, did you bed them in? Got a good transfer layer?
