Shims for Cobalt GT-Sport pads
I just picked up a full set of Cobalt GT-Sport pads from J.P. in the marketplace (I just couldnt pass up such a great price!)
They dont come with shims. Should I reuse my OEM ones or buy new OEM shims or go shimless???
Danke

No, you don't need them.
The pads wil be quieter in street applications if you reuse the OEM shims and re-lube them with special high temp brake lubricant. If you omit the shims for track use they will squeal more. But, you'll have slightly better direct action of the pads and no worries about the shims becoming loose or misshapened and causing braking problems.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll clean up my OEM shims and see how I feel about the brake response. Although it is tempting to see the difference by going shimless.

I usually just leave them out unless I know the car is going to be primarily street driven. The brakes may be slightly quieter with the shims in.
On my own car, I run the Cobalt full-race pads without shims; if I switch to street pads I also leave the shims off since I'm not worried about a little noise.
