Shifter stuck in the fully "down" position

Shifter stuck in the fully "down" position
My shifter is stuck in the depressed position (i.e. like you are trying to engage reverse)
When it did this earlier, I could manually "pull it up" and it would pop back, but now all the tugging in the world doesn't help - it stays down.
Its a real pain in the ass, since shifting from 4-5 and 5-6 is scary (since it easily floats over the the reverse position without any lockout)
Any idea on a fix w/o having to take it to the dealer?

I'm screwed . . . the nylon cage is SO stuck its not even funny. I'm litterally going to have to break it apart so i can get the shifter out, then get a new cage.
BUT, at least I know why I ended up in this situation. Per the TSB, when I inspected the rubber boot on the underside of the car, I realized that the 4 bolts which secure the boot were MISSING. The only people who possible could have screwed this up were: A) the Factory (unlikely) or B) The dealer when they installed my clutch/flywheel about 3 1/2 years ago (VERY likely)
So I'm a little pissed - I still can't yank the shifter out, I'm going to need to buy some replacement parts, and probably spend an afternoon chipping away at the cage.
I should have fixed this problem when it first started happening last fall . . . but I decided to wait until the weather got nicer again and let the car sit most of the winter (allowing the cage to REALLY corode!)

Ok, sorry to ressurect this thread . . . BUT after spending 2 weekends and 10 hours slowly melting the nylon cage apart with a 40 watt soldering gun, I FINALLY was able to extract the shifter. There was also a bit of corrosion on the nylon shift ball which complicated matters.
In order to get the purchase neccesary to extract the lever, I tied a nylon tie-down around the shifter, wrapped the other end around a 2x4, then used the top of the widshield as a pivot point (forced my shoulder under the 2x4).
WHAT a PITA!!!
But, I put all new replacement nylon parts in, replaced the rubber boots that were torn, and lubed the hell out of it with Honda high-temp urea grease, and now the shifter is as smooth a a baby's behind.
FINALLY!
PLEASE, if you are experiencing any issue with this - FIX IT NOW... it'll be SO much easier than waiting.
