You have an AP2 which will typically not crack the retainers
My bad, bgoetz is right. Ignore what I said about the retainers.

oh cause i just recently got my car dynoed for fun it was stock when i did it bout a month ago n i hit 203.2whp on a dyno dynamics so idk if thats good or not or should i still just go get my engine checked?
You have a stock S that put down 200+ WHP on a heartbreaker dyno? Thats impressive i'd say.

Dyno #s are difficult unless you have a previous dyno to compare it to. With that said I would doubt you would see over 200whp with a bent valve, but you could. The only way to know for sure is to have the compression checked, that is if you really want to know . You are making decent power, if you have a slightly bent valve it is most likely not going to do any more damage than it already had done, and the only recourse is a head rebuild, so I guess you have to weight your options.

would a mild mis shift from 5th-2nd affect the valves as well? same thing happened to me except the car didn't over rev. A friend of mine drove it around 31 MPH in 5th and mistakenly put it in 2nd. The car engine braked for a bit and he put it in neutral after. I saw the whole thing happen and the RPM only reached 8k. is this bad?

Few thousand miles and a lota hard runs have already past after the incident and nothing bad happened, car seems to run in tip top shape. maybe i'm just getting paranoid after reading this whole thread?

^misshifting won't hurt a thing.. unless it puts you over your rev limit.

8k rpm's in 2nd gear at 31 mph? Did you alter your gearing? That seems very odd as ap1's usually hit +55 mph redlining 2nd gear. Even with gearing that's way too low. Anyhow, if you were going that slow and downshifted to 2nd without going over 9k you're car is fine. No need to worry.

I maybe wrong about the speed part, maybe it was 31-45mph (50-70kph here in my country) or so, around that area. We were just cruising in the highway and he decided to give it a go, so he tried to downshift to fourth with no success. The thing i'm sure of is the RPM part though, i'm sure it didn't reach 9k but the engine brake felt terribly hurting.

Thanks though for all the replies, it gave me peace of mind.

mmm, it should be fine. But I would not make a habit of hard non-revmatched downshifts, especially with an AP1. I am going to speculate that most of the time the retainers are not damaged from the act of going beyond x rpms, they are damaged from the shock of the rpms jumping suddenly.

An overrev will directly damage the valve itself from floating it into the piston, this can happen just as easily with both an AP1 and an AP2. Some engines such as the newer model year 04+ K20a2s had different valve springs in an attempt to mitigate this, but to my knowledge there was no change like this from the F20 to the F22, just a change in the retainers (someone please correct me if I am wrong).

The retainers in an AP1 are pretty scary IMO, because I would bet that a tracked AP1 that has seen a couple of poorly matched downshifts (or even one unlucky one for that matter) could have a cracked retainer or two, making the car a ticking time bomb.

ap1 tot, I would say you SHOULD be ok, it would be pretty unlucky to crack a retainer from an event like that. To say that because you did not overrev you are deffinately good to go, is not correct IMO. If you want to know for sure you can always take the valve cover off an take a look. I think by looking you can have a pretty good idea if the retainers are damaged.
