Default Shift lever stiffness

I noted yesterday for the first time serious shift lever stiffness (MY2002, 13000 miles). Engine and trans hot, and went away with some pushing/pulling into all the gears. Then it happened again. I don't think it is the clutch not fully releasing because the stiffness is present in the nuetral gate moving from side to side...so it must be in the linkage???

Now it feels 'sloppy', or maybe it is my imagination. It is almost like something came off and impeded the movement of the lever, but fell away and now has left a sloppy feeling shifter (again maybe not).

Any one else had this occur??

Change transmission fluid? Every time I change mine it shifts much more fluidly right away.

If the transmission feels sloppy, then change the fluid first if you want, if that doesn't help or you don't want to, have it checked out. I've been stranded twice in my old 944 for a shift linkage that came apart, once in a tunnel. First signs were that it felt a little loose or sloppy, but I thought it was just my imagination.

Also, I have recently noticed the Helm's manual say's to grease the shift lever itself with "Super Hi temp Urea grease" 08798-9002 annually.

EDIT: reference; 00-03 Helm's page 3-2 and 3-3

There is a new Honda MTF. No one knows how well it holds up yet. I just got some from Honda of Pasadena. People in another thread are giving it positive reviews so far. Someone did mention it appears slightly thinner. I do agree that the old Honda MTF did not hold up to it's service interval.
