The blue thing is the oil filter.
I'm going to take her into the dealer tomorrow, but before I do that I really want to know what's going on so I could at least talk to the technie and not get BS about it.
no engine mod, except Injen intake which is on only for 1 month so far. No visible damage under the car either. I went back to that speed bump and it's not that high of a bump - could something have fell out inside the engine causing a similar sound just as I went over the speed bump?
I checked the filter, it's fine, no damage. No visible oil around the engine either except underneath the oil pan.
thanks

The only other place in that area might be the oil pressure sender. Check around it to feel for any oil. Also, double check just under the oil filter where it screws onto the engine. It can leak from there and not get the filter wet.

I just want to say that you shouldnt rule out a fine crack in the oil pan. I was just pointing out the properties of the oil pan itself. You may very well have a fine crack that looks like a result from the casting method.

Overtightening most likely deformed the rubber gasket. Posting your experience will benefit those who may be worried about the filter coming loose and subsequently ask King Kong to screw that sucker on.
This is good information.
