Yeah, and noise from the rear diff easily travels and can seem to come from the transmission.

What about change in load? That is when the noise is loudest.

I think that all the run out will do on the driveshaft is create a more noticeable clunk on starts and stops, nothing in between. To me it sounds like a rear diff issue, like I said start by changing the fluid into an open pan and look for any metal. Heck you might even notice a change in sound with new fluid at which point you know it is your diff. New fluid won't actually fix that but it could tell you a lot.

I'll try that. Doesnt the rear diff still spin if the rear wheels are moving or do the driveshaft spins freely in the pumpkin when not under load?

I had the exact same issue on my 08 a few months back. Severe vibration while accelerating, gets worse higher speed and higher rpm. It was the axles. Had the dealer replace both axles since my extended warranty covered it. Saved me bookoo dollars.

Can you take a slightly zoomed out picture too? I can't see where on the car that is. I didn't know the propshaft had a boot.

Yeah, the shaft play is normal, run-out refers to wobble along it's axis of rotation, not slop, which can also be excessive but it has to be a bit more than what you show. That's why you measure at the ends and the middle. Still the driveshaft is trashed likely the bearings in the unit have galled, you can take a chance with a used, or get some lube to prepare you for the cost of a new OEM one.

That looks to be the tailshaft end of the transmission. That end of it should be about even with where the cat meets the cat-back. There's a boot on either end of it.
