Default Seven thousand rpm cut off mystery

I searched tons of seven thousand rpm cut off problems in the database but no one seems to pinpoint the exact problem. The engine is hot. My engine won't pass over seven thousand rpm from idle to wot. The car is stationary not running. When I punch the accelerator, fuel cut at seven thou.

Here is the clue, I'm getting P0118 cel Engine Coolant Temp (ECT), will this trigger the cutoff if not connected? Since my car is a race car and I used different coolant temp. sensor. The stock wire of the ECT is not connected in the ecu.
Do you think the computer seeing it's cold and limit the engine to seven thousand rpm? VSS is now connected.

Also can someone tell me what other factors that will limit the engine to rev at seven thousand rpm?

Thanks man.

I believe so....? Isnt that when the Vtec cut is based off of? ( i think..)

the ecu engages vtec after it has checked engine oil pressure, engine temperature, vehicle speed, engine speed and throttle position.

engine temp might be related to coolant temp.

You are probably hitting the cold rev limiter. Since the engine Engine Coolant Temp sensor is disconnected, the ECU probably either reads that as cold or, since it does not know the temp, defaults to the cold rev limit.

cold rev limit is 6k tho (ap1) If the engine is cold, or if the ECU thinks the engine is cold, it will prevent it from going into vtec right? so that would be before 7k

So, I've been reading there are cuts at 3,000 rpm, some 5,000 rpm some said 6,000 rpm and mine is seven thousand rpm (sorry my # seven key is busted)...I also saw some 8,000 rpm....I'm confused.
I can't pinpoint the problem if too many variables.

I will try to approach it slowly. I will splice the original ECT wires and connect to my after market ECT and see what happens. Hopefully ECU it will see some voltage (temp) and release me at the seven thousand mode.

When my 01 AP1 is cold it goes to 7k...

I think you have answered your own question:
"Here is the clue, I'm getting P0118 cel Engine Coolant Temp (ECT), will this trigger the cutoff if not connected? Since my car is a race car and I used different coolant temp. sensor. The stock wire of the ECT is not connected in the ecu."

If I understand your statement correcly then you have an open circuit between the ECM (C18 or C26 in Helm Manual) and the ECT Sensor. You can't do that

Other posts are confusing V-Tec cold (oil pressure related) but you have a feedback error whre you ECM is looking for a value and there is none due to the open. The ECM fails to safe mode (i.e. RPM limit)

7K is the soft rev limit when VTEC is not engaging.

How do I know?

B/c when I installed my plug-n-play Emanage Ult from Ballistic, the VTEC switch was set to off. With the engine warm and the ECU reset, I could rev past 7k once or twice then the ECU would soft limit me to 7K due to no VTEC engagement...

Thanks Neutered----explain why not engaging to Vtec? what are the cause?

Anyway, I found the problem. I put the stock sensors back (coolant temp & oil sensor)...boooom, all the way to 9,000 now!

I will just install my own sensors in separate way for my gauges.
