Default Service Bulletin work after warranty expiration?

Just bought a MY '00, and most of the service bulletin repairs have not been made. Wondering what anyone's experience is with getting dealers to still do this work. The service bulletins indicate that it is up to dealer discretion. Thought maybe I'd bargain along the lines of "I'd like to bring it in for scheduled service but would like a couple of extra things done with no charge." Thoughts?

I would not count on anything except recalls being done free of charge. If you are spending a lot of money on another service, they MIGHT perform one of the simpler TSB "free of charge" but even then they can easily work it into the labor price without telling you.

don't hold your breath.

I was able to convince the dealer to cover 1/2 to get my soft top replaced after warranty expired, but within the CPO warranty period. The soft top tear was covered by a TSB, but considered normal wear and tear in the CPO warranty, while it would have been 100% covered under the new car warranty.

if you bought the car from that dealer and take it there regularly for service, you may have a shot.

if you got it kind of recently, it's a 12 year old car...don't count on anything.

TSB's dont "cover" anything, they are simply there so the technicians dont spend all day troubleshooting something that already has a known fix or to update old repair procedures.

Be prepared for no. Your car has a warranty that expired in 2003.
