Def check the Idler Pulley.
I heard small screechy noises coming from under the hood for less than 10 miles omw home from school so I took it in the next day to the dealer. Turns out that when the mechanic took it out for a test drive the belt shredded because of a bad idler pulley. The noise was from the idler scorching the side of the block....
Better safe than sorry.

What is the name of the pulley in the middle on left side of diagram? Is that the idler pulley? Parts store tried to sell me one with grooves, saying that was the idler pulley, but mine is smooth. Any help appreciated on the name of that pulley!

That's the idler. Note which part of the belt touches each pulley. The "inside" of the belt has grooves. That touches grooved pulleys and/or ones that have a "lip" on the edges to act as guides. The outside is smooth. That touches smooth pulleys. If a grooved pulley touches the smooth side of the belt, the belt will disintegrate very quickly. Find a different parts store.
