Second Gear Grind

Second Gear Grind
I have a new S2k with 300 miles. I have detected some difficulty putting the car in second gear during cold starts (in Ohio). After driving 5-7 miles the problem goes away. Today I drove another new S2k at the dealer and found the same defect. Is this typical? Does it go away after breakin?

This is normal. Doesn't seem to go away after the break-in (my car has over 10,000 miles now... I just changed the transmission fluid last night and it still does it).
I think others will agree with me as well. I think all model year S2000s do it.
Just shift slower and at lower RPM when the car is cold to minimize the "crunch".

00-02 had issue, it was/is being addressed under TSB-058 warrentee. Thought 03-05 had no 2nd gear grind. Check library for all TSB's. They are the factory know issues that are being addressed.

Sounds normal to me. My '02 has done this for a long time, now at 76k miles plus change, it still does it.
Changing to GM Synchromesh Friction Modified in the transmission helped some in my case, but did not completely eliminate the behavior.
