That is _very_ interesting. No ECU changes either. Hmm, must contemplate this on the tree of woe....

(Sorry obscure Conan reference)

I know that there are too many part numbers to check, but couldn't it even be something less obvious, like a better O2 sensor, catalytic converter, header, intake manifold, etc.? Couldn't the increase in RWHP also be attributed to the updates in the transmission or differential?

With regards to the ECU, couldn't the maps be updated, without the part number changing?

Ardy, let me know if you are also in need of the gasket, because i am about order myself one as well. I ll get you a valve cover gasket as well, both discounted of course

BTW, i dont think its the oil bolts that are contributing to the difference in power between years. I know KTs car is from the older batch and her car is def stronger. I was thinking that it may have something to do with the mapping myself because the cars are running leaner up top as oppossed to the older cars running richer. Wierd all the #'s are the same. Maybe they got superceded.
OT... Nice cage man.

I seriously doubt that a "reliable" car company like Honda would lean out a fuel map to get a couple extra ponies. I think the tranny update could have something to do with it. Perhaps less parasitic loss? Don't know... just guessing. As for the AVC. I don't think there is anyone on this planet that actually knows how to use it fully. Not even the Apex people. rofl

We need an insider in the Honda engineering team. Enquiring minds want to know where the power increase is coming from...
Anybody volunteer to be the mole?

Good thread!

I dynoed 232hp on UL's Dyno with just a Mugen Intake, Mugen Exhaust, STOCK header, and VAFC. It's an early MY00 so still with the "old" banjo bolts. Using Honda Engine and Tranny Fluid, not that it makes any difference.

I gained 7 peak hp with VAFC tuning. The intake probably didn't do much at peak and I doubt the exhaust did anything either. Guess I got a lucky and got a good engine or did a good job breaking it in! I have the Mugen Rad Cap, Thermostat, Fan switch, Denso IK24, and Hondata insulator gasket waiting to get installed. Hopefully those will help with the hot Southern California summer weather coming up and maybe even a few HP on the side.

Everyone loves seeing dyno charts right?
