Search Down 2ng gear grind question
okay, i have the awesome 2nd gear grind... it can be a mild shift (from from any rpm really, doesnt even need to be at wot) and i can have the clutch ALL the way in, and yep, its grinds. also redline shifts from 1-2 about 1 out of every 10 will grind. so my question is.. what should i do? i have the extended warranty.. but what will fix this permantly? i got my tranny fluid changed about 6-7k ago.. should i do it again? thanks for your help!..

First of all, are you holding the stick against the left rail all the way down into second? Are you hestating for just a tiny fraction of a second just as you "introduce" the tranny into 2nd?
If you are doing the above, then it's possible that you need a new 2nd gear set (including syncros). Whether or not you will get this done for free will depend on the warranty guy at the dealer you choose.
However, before going this route, try a clutch fluid change and ascertain whether or not the pedal is adjusted properly with the correct amount of free play on each end. Grinding shouldn't hurt your clutch, but a poorly adjusted clutch can hurt your shifting.
Next, try changing your tranny fluid to the GM Syncromesh "Friction Modified" fluid. A few owners have reported good results with this when grinding was an issue. Your result may vary.

Yep, they should fix an '02 - I had the problem in my '03 (Honda rebuilt ... and then replaced my transmission).
The second transmission was fine ... but I dropped in an '04 transmission for the better gear ratios ('03 transmission with ~7k on it for sale).
I recommend you give Amsoil MTF a try. It's relatively new, but is listed as a direct replacement for both Honda MTF and GM Synchromesh Friction Modified. That will keep you legal with your warranty. GMSMFM may work for you, but Honda may not honor the warrany if you use it.
