Default Screaming/Screeching From Under Hood

My car has 5K mi. on the clock, and I've had 1 oil change (@3750 mi). I started my car up this eve and it started screaming/screeching...just one long continuous scream. I thought there might have been a cat under the car that I sucked into the engine. I checked under the hood and the sound seemed to be coming from the main belt that drives all the pulleys/wheels at the front of the block. I don't know if it was warming up or revving up the caused the sound to stop, but it did stop. Anyone else experience this before? Any guess or clue as to what caused the sound? As always, any and all feedback much appreciated.

There have been a few reports of the belt tensioner failing. I would check that first to see if it has tension and if the wheel spins without wobble.
