I and a few others have a S/C and "gears". I have the 4.44's and would have loved to have gotten the 4.57's. The gears give you that low end grunt the car really needs. Then, when the boost comes on, the blower takes care of the mid to high end - a perfect combination.
I think you may find that the combination of a S/C and 4.77's will be just a bit too much. You'll have a tough time keeping the rubber on the ground if you "punch it". I can easily brake the rear loose mashing the gas in the right circumstances. I think 4.57's might be about as high a ratio as you want to go. Not saying 4.77's would be impossible to handle, but it would take a great deal of finesse. Besides, the 4.57's should provide greater strength and thus, a slightly better margin of safety. The currently available 4.77's are not nearly as strong.

i'm running 4.77's and sc. when you install the sc, you REALLY feel the power up in vtec. when you install the gears, you REALLY feel the power down low. they make a great team.
with both of them combined, you'll find it'll test your skills as a driver, but i personally don't think they're too much. now ... the cars that lost to me. they might disagree.

In half an hour, I'm taking my car to get my turbo kit put on, so by the end of the week, I will let you know if 4.77's and a turbo are too much. And for the weak hearted, I just drove 10 hours straight of freeway driving in the S with the 4.77's. It can be done, but not recommended.

oh yeah. you're not kidding. on my drive home, 85 mph was 5500 on the tach. that's some high cruising revs. but i don't hit the freeway often, cuz first curves are more fun, second, there's not one close to the house, and third, i hope road rash and the arse holes who have dirt flying out the back of their loads.
