@Car Analogy Thanks for expanding on my OP.

@zeroptzero Listed some good reasons why one would consider the silicone coolant hoses. Longevity and reliability over rubber are some good reasons. They can smell.

@jackmugen02 "Spoon uses SEP (silicone ethylene propylene) rubber hoses" Looking into the Spoon radiator hoses.

I am still adding Honda 50/50 or approved 50/50 as coolant level decreases. I've not kept track at the rate of how fast it goes down as I add coolant to overflow tank when needed.

I've had good experience with HPS silicone hoses. I replaced the coolant line because of my aftermarket intake with one. No leaks and no smell of coolant ever since I replaced my cracked overflow.

I'm glad I found this thread! I replaced my radiator with a Mishimoto radiator and added their oil cooler. While I was at it I replaced the thermostat and all my hose's with Mishimoto silicone radiator hose's and HPS silicone heater hose's...I did this about 2 years ago, and since have smelled coolant and was loosing it ....about a cup every 9 months. I've done 2 pressure tests on the cooling system, no leaks, and the car runs cool. But when I park it in the garage there's that slight smell of coolant,

It had me stumped....so silicone hose's have permeation...I didn't know that.....the smell had me worried??.

Hey glad the thread helped you out. The problem now is just not knowing the ratio of loss but it's not seemingly a debilitating problem.

I'm going to keep track of how much I top it off...I wrote down the date, mileage and how much coolant added. I'll post what I find out..

Silicone hoses slip off much much easier off than oem rubber hoses. Stick with oem rubber! I had this issue even went with fancy same tension smooth warm clamp hoses. Not worth the hassle or price. Save the money and put it towards better radiator or better cooling fans(not mishimoto)

What don't you like about a Mishimoto radiator ....I installed their radiator and oil cooler...2 years ago, so far no issues.

Use something like this and test virgin Honda coolant, then test whats in your radiator. That should tell you how your coolant is doing.

Its their cooling fans that are so subpar that it makes me question the rest of their products.
