Default Safety of X-braces

Most cars are designed so the engine/transmission drops under the care during a head on collision rather than impinge on the passenger compartment. The DiGrappa, Comptec, and Whiteline X-braces appear to have potential to interfere with this during a crash. The Cusco 3 point brace seems somewhat less inclined to do so. Any thoughts from the informed?

Simple enough, if it bothers you, don't put it on. Most cars also don't have a huge beam going across it in front of the engine.

This has been posted before. I think the general consensus was that the weight of the engine in a high speed crash would break right thru any sort of brace under it.

I'm with turbo_pwr. Adding an Xbrace changes the engineering as honda intended it. That's the only thing you know. Without a real crash test anything else is pointless speculation.

If you worry about it, don't install it. I'm planning on getting one but, I also believe the probability of a full speed, head on colision's low enough that it's a non-issue. I might be wrong and it might kill me but, that's just how probability is. Sometimes your number comes up.

A head on collision's far safer than getting T boned. I'd worry more about that.

I think is has been more then 1.5 years since this topic last came up. From a 5yr member non the less this time. I even had to reread the first post, "DiGrappa", man that was a long time ago, years.

Again, I agree with Dan on this one.The braces are designed for for strength in the corners and not under the motor. Think of it like a board, easy to break if hit in the middle, hard is hit in the edges.

if you get into an accident where your engine and transmission were to break off and drop under the car... an x-brace will be the last last kind of brace you will be worrying about.

^ true.

The amount of force it would take to eject your engine and trans through he bottom of your car would most likely tear that xbrace off like paper.

Wishful thinking. That's all I'm seeing here. Not backed up by any kind of proof.

I also don't think we have even (in the last 6 years) seen a wrecked car that the motor was pushed out the bottom either. Again, more wishful thinking.
