S2k "normal" oil temp
Hi people,
Got one or two questions regarding oil temp...
* what would the expected oil temp to expect driving with no vtec at the end of a 30 min period @ a "average" ambient temp say around 10-30 Deg C? The same question again but this time with vtec involved?
* I was thinking of purchasing the aem oil temp sensor kit is this a good option? Taking a temp reading can't be that hard regarding spec of sensor right?
* where to place sensing element??? Really don't know on this one? I'm sure you guys have no doubt found the best place..
Many thanks
John

I found this quote interesting "For all you S2000 guys with no additional oil cooling, I wouldn’t even think of running 10w-30 again for a track day."
The only thing I can figure is that the 30 thinned so much at 121C that his oil pressure alarm was going off at idle?

he's posting 1,5-1,6 bar at idle with 90C oil.
That's allready a little low as the OEM spec is 2,5 bar with 80C oil at idle.
Why?
Is there some damage from previous track days?
I have not found any info on what type/brand 10W-30 is/was in there.
If his average oil temps are 121C its possible the oil is hotter then 150C at high load spots.
150C is HTHS temp.
30 weight oils are usually around 3cP (is pretty close to 3 times viscosity of water) at 150C
It will be proportionally thinner at 160-170C, possible dangerously thin?
I've used Shell 0W-30 5-6 years back during a track day and did a UOA 20.000 km later.
I did the oil change days before the track day and used it for 20k km, then did the UOA.
No extra wear metals were found.
Actually, the Fe ppm/1000km was lower than using a 0W-40 for DD.
The ppm/1000km for Cu and Al were ok too.
Now.. he's driving in (much) higher ambient temps than I was.
That is an important factor.
In any case: if you want to stick with a 30 weight during atrack day it better be a good one.
